For those of you who’s interested in our progress into Comic Market, here’s a small teaser of what we’ve been up to in the past couple of weeks. Keep in mind, that these are all unfinished drawings and have yet to be completed. This is just a small taste of what’s to come in December. Now, back to more drawing!

Thought this was pretty impressive since being a South Park and Soul Eater fan. The artist responsible for this is a Japanese South Park fan who goes by the name Arieko. Here is the South Park version:
And for those that haven’t seen the original:
Impressive right? Too bad it’s only about a minute of animation. I can see how the artist might’ve burned out after a while of doing this.

Kadokawa will also be handing out posters, autographing and holding a pudding eating contest for those that show. If you haven’t seen if yet, buy it! It’s an amazing film and you won’t be let down. We previously reviewed it on CM! here, if your still unsure… I’ll be heading down there to check out the event and hopefully remember to take pictures!

Sweet! Ishimori Pro and Panson Works are collaborating on some blind box figures of their popular superheroes. These figures are a lot smaller then the previously posted Luffy figure standing at only 50mm. There’s a couple that I want looking at the roster line up like Kamen Rider RX, Kikaider, and Cyborg 009. The roster has 24 in all to collect and a secret figure. If any you out there are interested in buying Panson Work figures your best bet is on eBay or Hobby Search, as they are a bit hard to find here in the States. This particular line is already out and should be at stores soon.

Junpei bought this for me as a birthday present while we were at Frank&Sons this weekend. It’s a 40th anniversery Panson Works Luffy vinyl figure. Luffy is one of my favorite characters in manga and this iteration of figure combine both the graphical feel of vinyl toys that I like and anime. I’ve been looking into getting some more of these Panson Work figures, but it’s been kind of difficult as most of these are prizes for UFO catchers. I could order them online, but it seems they only sell in bulk.

We are currently busy drawing now, prepping content with both parody and original work. I’m really excited as we are the few foreigners from the States that will be participating in the event. So come to table D-02a on Day 3 and say hello. Don’t forget to bring some yen!

So it’s finished, tested and debuted! Here are the rest of the pictures of the process and the bucket trooper’s public showing.
Last time we left off, the bucket was base painted and read for stenciling.
I used bristol paper to cut out all the shapes with a xacto knife.
Once the stencil was ready to go, I taped the parts to the bucket and used some paper to mask the areas that I didnt want painted. I found out that the white paint I used didn’t allow the masking tape to stick onto the bucket. This proved a huge problem and later caused lots of trouble.
As you can see, with the tape unable to stick to the bucket, the stencil didn’t hold down so well allowing the paint to seep through. I thought the drippy look was kinda cool and made it look urban.
I was irritated with the top bar being a complete disaster and with Halloween not too long away, I wasn’t too sure if I should fix it or not.
FIX IT! I went in and re-painted the top bar taking out the drippy paint marks. Think it turned out alot better?
Bucket Trooper always the odd man out in his squad…

Well here’s something you don’t see everyday, a Japanese PV (music video) animated in Flash. The Triceratops, a Japanese band, worked with the design firm Spooky Graphics to produce this music video (I’m also reading that Gonzo Rosso is involved). The style and art direction reminds me of the Gorillaz x She Loves the Cream PV from Amazing Nuts!
Seems like Spooky Graphics previous work roster consist of Metal Gear Solid, SmapxSmap, and some commercials. One of their upcoming projects is making a music video for Jero, the African-American enka singer sensation. Yes, enka.

ANN broke the news with Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way acquiring rights to develop the live-action adaptation of Kawajiri’s Ninja Scroll.
Is it me or does Hollywood only go after dated anime titles that only Americans in the 90’s know about? In the past news reports, all the acquired titles have been either been released in the early 90’s or before. There are tons of better titles to adapt then the series or movies Manga Entertainment localized a decade ago. I’m baffled at the attempts to bridge anime titles into Hollywood. Some titles just don’t work for a live action adaptation. There needs to be more thought into acquiring titles then just thinking it’ll turn a profit. Acquisitions need to be made where the IP will actually be a good adaptation for the American audience. Adjustments need to be badly made to make the transition work, but it takes the right choices to get it down. Think about it, if its a good movie then it’ll turn a profit plus some noteworthy respect. Otherwise you just end up with a movie that just comes and goes like color-f*(k Speed Racer. American comics can do it….why can’t anime?

For Halloween this year, I decided to go Trooping…but not exactly in the idea that everyone has. I’m actually going Bucket Trooping! A term the Dirty Serb and I coined together. Being too poor and rather spending my money on figures then a $2,000 vaccum pressed suit from the Phillipines, I opted for throwing a bucket over my cranium and stenciling a Storm Trooper hemet on it. It’s still unfinished but here’s the WIP in picture format.
First I made the stencil in Illustrator.
After making the stencil, I went out and bought the bucket a my local hardware store. I couldn’t believe they didn’t have white buckets. What’s up with that? Anyway, I divided up the stencils in various parts and started with the eye piece since it was going to need the most work. Here’s the first stencil. Zebra Style!
Used a xacto to cut out the negative.
Das helmut! Das lego Ipod holder! DAS GAIKING!
Put the stencil on the bucket for some pre-vising. Marked where the eye sockets were going to go and it’s off to the dremel.
Bought a dremel just for this project. Thinking that it’ll eventually be used again for plamo or future projects. Investment? Hope so.
Got the holes cut out roughly. Had to go back in and hand sand the loose parts off. Had to make some adjustments before painting to smooth out the helmut.
That’s the second coat of paint. Seems like it’ll take a couple more layers to get it spot white. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the white will show!
つづく。。。
